*Actor Rob Lowe takes his lifelong interest in unsolved mysteries to the next level as he and his two sons, Matthew and John Owen, investigate unusual phenomena and fanatical legends across America.

Premiering August 2nd, “The Lowe Files” follows Rob and his sons as they travel through the country to explore infamous unsolved mysteries, a curiosity that Rob has had since he was a child and passed down to his boys.

And while they may be hunting Bigfoot in the back woods of Oklahoma or exploring an alien base off the coast of Malibu, “The Lowe Files” is really a show about a father and his sons going on a real adventure (they aren’t playing characters) and taking the audience with them.

Rob, Matthew and John Owen spoke onstage during the A+E Networks portion of the 2017 Summer TCA at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on July 28, where EUR/Electronic Urban Report correspondent Ny MaGee was on hand to pose one simple question to Mr. Lowe: Are there any similarities between being a father and being a ghost hunter?

“Similarities between father and ghost hunter? Boy, I mean, that’s a tough one,” he laughs. “I just think that enthusiasm counts for a lot in life, and being able to keep up with these guys and their interests and their world, which is much different than the world that I grew up in, you have to keep your eyes open and be open to things, and I think that’s also a hallmark of being a ghost hunter. Enthusiastic, eyes open. That’s my version of full hearts, clear eyes.

When we asked Mr. Lowe what he believes is the essential part of being a paranormal investigator, he made one thing clear: “I really don’t consider myself that. We’re the definition of weekend warriors.”

Adding, “We came out. We do what the real people do. We had fun. We screwed it up. Sometimes we had results. Other times we didn’t. We don’t really know what we’re doing. We don’t really care. That’s sort of where it’s at. But the one thing I did learn is that most of the good stuff happens after midnight when you’re really tired and you’re really exhausted and you would really rather be back at your bed.”

Matthew and John Owen were asked how the production would have been different if there was no film crew alongside ‘em every step of the way.

“Honestly, I don’t think much would have changed, said Matthew, with John adding “Definitely not.”

Matthew continued, “The stuff that you see is how we always are, and it was as real as it gets in terms of us being us.”

“I feel like a good example is when we were really young, we would go on Sasquatch hunting trips, and there were no cameras there back then,” adds John.

“That footage you see at the beginning of the reel (see clip above), because, like a lot of families, we love to camp. We love being outdoors, and ghost stories and campfire stories are a big part of that,” says Rob. He also notes that “the whole concept of the show is that it’s the journey and it’s creating memories for us and having an excuse to be together.”

Adding, “And so if we don’t find actual results it’s not really all that important. So when we did find results, which we did in a couple of shows in particular that were kind of mind-blowing — when we delivered the first cut to the network, they were like, “You guys made this up, right?” We were like, “No, absolutely everything we captured is authentic.” So when we got in the first episode Preston Castle, when the — whatever, the furniture was moving and the voices were talking and the lights were — all of that, that was — I never thought
we’d get that sort of tangible stuff on film.”

See new episodes of “The Lowe Files” every Wednesdays at 10pm E/P on A+E.
