*Showtime has emerged the winner in what Deadline.com is calling a “competitive situation” for a comedy series project from Jessica Williams (former “The Daily Show” correspondent) and indie filmmaker Jim Strouse, with Williams set to star.

The pair, which also birthed the Netflix effort “The Incredible Jessica James,” will write and executive produce the Showtime comedy, which tells the story of an African American aspiring science fiction writer (Williams) who comes of age in Brooklyn.

Strause is also tapped to direct, and Annapurna TV is in negotiations to come aboard as a producer, according to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva.

Before linking for “The Incredible Jessica James,” in which Williams played the title role, she and Strouse first teamed on the 2015 Sundance pic “People Places Things,” which marked Williams’ first major feature role.
