*Cam Newton can say goodbye to his spokesperson deal with Dannon Yogurt. And it’s all because of the words that came out his mouth at a team press conference yesterday, as we reported earlier.
The Carolina Panthers QB obviously didn’t anticipate the backlash when he said these words to Charlotte Observer reporter Jourdan Rodrique: “It’s funny to hear a female talk about routes like — it’s funny.”
He had no idea Dannon would be trippin’ over his comment to point where they said adios to him because of it. Newton had been the company’s high-profile spokesperson for its Oikos yogurt brand.
Dannon sent this statement to ESPN’s Darren Rovell:
“We are shocked and disheartened at the behavior and comments of Cam Newton towards Jourdan Rodrigue, which we perceive as sexist and disparaging to all women. It is entirely inconsistent with our commitment to fostering equality and inclusion in every workplace. It’s simply not OK to belittle anyone based on gender. We have shared our concerns with Cam and will no longer work with him.”

As a point of clarification, a Dannon spokesperson told Rovell that Newton will remain under contract but the company won’t use him.
Newton’s comments drew swift criticism on social media. The NFL and Pro Football Writers of America released statements critical of Newton.
Clearly Dannon didn’t think it was in its best interest to continue with a pitchman who was in the middle of such a controversy.
Hmm, with them dumping him just like that, we could be wrong, but it sounds to us like there could be more to the story.
