*Sony has released the first trailer for “Roman J. Israel, Esq.,” starring Denzel Washington in the title role of the legal savant.
Dan Gilroy (“Nightcrawler”) directed the thriller, which follows a liberal Los Angeles attorney as he’s offered a job at a prestigious law firm after the death of his longtime partner.
Israel has been fighting the good fight while others take the credit. When his partner, the firm’s front man, has a heart attack, Israel suddenly finds himself in a leadership role. He finds out some unsettling things about what the crusading law firm has done that run afoul of his values of helping the poor and dispossessed, and he finds himself in an existential crisis that leads to extreme action.
Colin Farrell and Carmen Ejogo costar in the film, which made its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last month.
It’s scheduled to be released by Columbia Pictures on November 3, 2017.
