*Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is feeling a lot of heat in the wake of a racially-charged joke he made to a fan who was video-ing him on their phone.
However, NFL Network commentator and former Cowboys player Deion Sanders is helping clean up the mess Jones made.
The quip was made back in 2013 after a (white) man asked Jones to make a comment to his wife (or fiancée). Jones responded with, “Jennifer, congratulations on the wedding. Now, you know he’s with a black girl tonight, don’t you?”
Hmm, “why would he say THAT(?)” is what a lot of folks are wondering. Maybe he had been drinking and was feeling chipper, so to speak. Who knows why he chose to say what he said. The bottom line is that he said it … without provocation.
If it helps, since the story broke, Jones has apologized, explaining “It’s not who I am, and I’m sorry.” He added … “That comment was inappropriate.”

In any event, Jones’ buddy, Deion Sanders, is speaking out in defense of Jones, declaring that he (Jones) doesn’t have a racial bone despite what Jones clearly said
Sanders told The Blast that he “won’t cast judgment on one moment when a joke went south to capture who this man represents in a lifetime commitment of love and compassion to all ethnicities.”
Sanders, who won a Super Bowl championship the team added:
“Jerry does more for his players than anyone in the league, I don’t think there’s a player, whether African American or Caucasian, that would agree [the video] is a representation of Jerry.”
Sanders also posed this question:
“If I made the same joke to another ethnicity, would we be as bothered?”
Sanders goes on to say that the current political and racial climate in the country could be responsible for any reaction to Jones’ comment.
“It’s a very sensitive time for our country, it’s easy for us to jump to conclusions based on the climate of the time.”
