The Funk Music Hall of Fame and Exhibition Center in Dayton received its final approvals from the city and is now taking reservations for private tours and events, according to the museum’s president and CEO, David Webb.

“As you know, Dayton is the funk capital of the world,” Webb told Dayton’s Fox45. “And we’re so happy that the funk center is here in Dayton, Ohio.

Dayton was often referred to as the Land of Funk in the 1970s and 1980s, thanks to a number of successful funk bands based in the city, including the Ohio Players, Steve Arrington’s Hall of Fame, Zapp, Faze-O, Heatwave, Sun, Slave and Lakeside.

The center’s new location is open now, but just for groups who would like to tour. In late January, Webb said there will be a ribbon cutting and it will be open to the general public.

A $5 donation will be requested per visitor.
