*On the heels of his teaser for “Family Feud” released Thursday, Jay-Z has followed through with the full length video, released Friday at precisely 4:44 p.m. EST via his streaming service Tidal.
The “4:44” track touches on Jay-Z’s infidelity, with the video featuring the rapper professing his sins to wife Beyoncé in a church confessional after walking inside with his daughter, Blue Ivy.
Ava DuVernay directs the seven-minute visual, which begins with a quote from James Baldwin: “The wretched of the earth do not decide to become extinct, they resolve, on the contrary, to multiply: life is their weapon against life, life all that they have.”
The footage spans more than 400 years, beginning in the year 2444 with Michael B. Jordan starring in a Shakespearean tale of infidelity, politics and murder before working its way through different generations.
The video, scored by Flying Lotus, finishes in a church in 2018, with Blue Ivy watching her parents perform in confessional booths and pulpits.
Jessica Chastain, Thandie Newton, America Ferrera, Brie Larson, Omari Hardwick, Rashida Jones, Mindy Kaling and Rosario Dawson are among the all-star cast.
