*Hmm, now that she’s had time to think about it and judge the public’s reaction, “Black-ish” co-star Tracee Ellis Ross has issued a statement on her position with the show going forward.

Earlier this week we reported that she’s considering devoting less time to “Black-ish” … unless the difference between her pay and co-star Anthony Anderson’s pay is not addressed.

If you missed it, here’s the backstory. A story ran in The Hollywood Reporter about a recent #TimesUp meeting among women in Hollywood where Tracee’s ‘Black-ish’ pay became a topic of conversation. The story quoted sources saying, Tracee said that she makes “significantly less” money than Anderson for her work on the show and unless it’s rectified she’ll appear in fewer episodes while guest starring on other shows to make up the difference.

Now Tracee is saying the words used in the initial report were not hers and were misconstrued. During the process of renegotiating her contract she felt like she deserves money that reflects the amount time and dedication she puts into the show.

“I wanted to be compensated in a way that matches my contribution to a show that I love for many reasons, including the opportunity it allows me to reshape what it is to be a fully realized black woman on TV.”

“The words and thoughts that were in the original article that started this public conversation were not mine; there were never any threats. I wish I would have been called by the reporter to confirm that,” she added.

Ellis-Ross concluded her Twitter distributed message by saying that even though “having had my renegotiation become a public conversation was awkward,” she was “grateful for the outpouring of support.”

“I’m truly thankful that important conversations are taking place about fighting for women’s worth and equality, and tightening the pay gap in every industry,” she wrote.
