BBC AMERICA’s “Doctor Who” debuted a new look today, as Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker revealed the series’ new logo and insignia at BBC Worldwide’s annual showcase event in Liverpool, according to a press release.

If you’re not familiar with the show, here’s the drop:

“Doctor Who” is a British science-fiction television series produced by the BBC since 1963. It centers on the fantastical adventures of a Time Lord called “the Doctor”, an extraterrestrial being from the planet Gallifrey. Accompanied by a number of human companions, The Doctor explores the universe in a time-traveling spaceship called the TARDIS.

Twelve actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation – an idea introduced in 1966 to allow the show to continue after the departure of original lead William Hartnell who was becoming very ill at the time.

Jodie Whittaker took on the role after Peter Capaldi’s exit in the 2017 Christmas special “Twice Upon a Time.”

FYI, “Allons-y” is one of the Tenth Doctor’s catchphrases. It’s French for “Let’s Go”.

The “Doctor Who” logo is an iconic and powerful trademark for the franchise that is recognized all around the world, and the updated version marks a new era for the series.

BBC Worldwide commissioned creative agency Little Hawk to create the brand-new designs, working closely with showrunner Chris Chibnall and executive producer Matt Strevens.

The sound for the animated logo is created by Matthew Herbert. It will launch with a 10-second animation which features the TARDIS blazing a trail through the logo.

All official “Doctor Who” merchandise featuring the new logo will be available at selected retailers from February 20th, 2018.

“Doctor Who” is a BBC AMERICA co-production with BBC Studios.

The first season starring Jodie Whittaker premieres Fall 2018 on BBC AMERICA and BBC1. The actress has shared with various media outlets that she made sure she got paid the same as her predecessor Peter Capaldi.

“It’s an incredibly important time and the notion [of equal pay] should be supported. “It’s a bit of a shock that it’s a surprise to everyone that it should be supported,” she said backstage at the National Television Awards.

“I know I do not speak just on behalf of the women here, I speak on behalf of the men and the women,” she added.

When asked how she was enjoying working on the iconic sci-fi show, the actress said: “Yeah, it’s great. I love it, I absolutely love it, yeah. It’s amazing! I get to see all the best places!”
