*Papa Joe has come for Quincy Jones following the producing icon’s explosive interview with Vulture.

Michael Jackson’s father Joe Jackson is defending his late son’s honor after Jones suggested the King of Pop stole his bass line for “Billie Jean” from the Donna Summer track “State of Independence.”

“Quincy Jones (should) know better,” Joe tells TMZ, suggesting his son wrote all his own originals and never had to steal riffs, melodies or beats. (Watch below.)

As TMZ points out, Quincy was the producer of both “State of Independence” and “Billie Jean,” and Michael actually sang on Summer’s song in question, which was released months before Jackson’s “Billie Jean” became a worldwide number one hit in 1983.

Meanwhile, the controversy over the two songs has generated a boost in sales for the late Summer. “State of Independence” was streamed online 150,000 times in the 48 hours since Quincy’s interview debuted last week. That’s a rise of 12,000 per cent, according to Billboard.
