*LeBron James has reportedly signed a deal with New Line to produce an updated version of the 1990s film “House Party.”
But don’t call it a reboot.
It’s “not a reboot,” James told The Hollywood Reporter, instead calling it “an entirely new look for a classic movie.”
“Everyone I grew up with loved House Party” he continued. “To partner with this creative team to bring a new House Party to a new generation is unbelievable.”
Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori, the writers behind the Emmy-winning FX comedy-drama “Atlanta,” have signed to write the screenplay.
The original “House Party” film starred rap duo Kid ‘n Play as high school teens throwing a party at Play’s house while his parents were on vacation. Reginald Hudlin directed the film, which earned New Line $26.4 million at the box office and led to “House Party 2” in 1991 and “House Party 3 in 1994.”
So far, there’s no casting news surrounding LeBron James’ version, although Carter is looking to include major musicians for both the soundtrack and for key roles…including Drake.
“We’re trying out some ideas for musicians to be cast in and to be a part of the project,” he said.
