*Ta-Nehisi Coates’ award-winning Between the World and Me is headed to the stage.

A celebrity cast led by Common, Angela Bassett and Susan Kelechi Watson of NBC’s “This Is Us” will deliver the first staged reading of Coates’ 2015 book at the Apollo Theatre from April 2-3.

Different performers will take the stage each night. Common and Bassett will be joined by Tony-nominated actress Michelle Wilson on April 2; Watson will read on April 3, along with Pauletta Washington.

Grammy-nominated jazz musician Jason Moran will contribute music to the program, which is helmed by the Apollo’s own executive producer, Kamilah Forbes. Coates and Moran collaborated with Forbes for the development of the project, which incorporates staged readings from Coates’ text with video projections and Moran’s compositions.

Between the World and Me is written as a letter to the author’s teenaged son about the feelings, symbolism, and realities associated with being black in the United States.

The book won the 2015 National Book Award for Nonfiction and was a finalist for the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction.
