*DMX’s legal team is working overtime to make sure he does not spend any time behind bars after pleading guilty to skipping out on a $1.7 million tax bill.

The former rapper is trying everything possible to avoid prison, including devoting more time to spiritual work and reviving his music career. Matter fact, his lawyers are going to play DMX songs in court in an effort to sway the judge during sentencing.

According to documents obtained by The Blast, X’s attorneys believe he has a certain “je ne sais quoi” that makes him extremely likable and marketable, and that “this diamond is rough but he should not be buried.”

Council is also suggesting that all of “Mr. Simmons’ future contracts contain a provision that all fees are deposited to an escrow with Government or trustee supervision.”

They believe setting up a payment plan to “correct the losses to the government” will be more beneficial than serving the possible 5 years that federal prosecutors are suggesting.

The documents claim a payment plan would not only ensure the government gets paid back, it would be “Safeguarded for Mr. Simmons to live on and to support his children and would serve to ensure that he paid by unscrupulous people.”

Since the beginning of his tax case, DMX has alleged that poor financial management resulted in his current legal drama.

The attorney says 2018 is an “Important year for Mr. Simmons as an artist as it is the twentieth anniversary of the release of his first album.” Court docs make it clear that his team believes X “has an opportunity to significantly earn and in earning he can significantly pay his restitution.”

The judge has not yet ruled on the case.

Meanwhile, DMX’s ex-wife and baby mama have written letters to the judge pleading for his freedom.

According to theJasmineBrand, X’s ex-wife, Tashera Simmons and his other baby mama Desiree Lindstrom, have penned lengthy letters prior to his sentencing.

In part of Tashera’s letter she writes:

“The young man that I met decades ago is not the man that stands before you today. The boy I met was full of love [sic], hopes and dreams to make himself and the world a better place by inspiring through his music. I watched him year after year fight hard to become the iconic public figure he is today. Unfortunately, due to his younger years of his mother’s verbally emotionally and physical abuse, he suffered from a lot of mental trauma.”

Desiree, the mother of his youngest child, 17-month-old Exodus Earl Simmons, writes:

“Through the years behind closed doors, I have stood by a man that is mentally fragile, suffers from insomnia, traumatic memories, shame, depression and years of what I call street education.”

Federal prosecutors have recommended that he receive five years in prison.
