The Black Writers Guild of Maryland has selected Baltimore prodigy Anthony Michael Hobbs to speak on their 4th Annual Youth Program panel to discuss writing for his three award winning films: One Nation, Naga Pixie and Agent Hollywood.

The panel will be held on Saturday April 7, 2018 from 1 – 3:30 p.m. ET at the Edmondson Avenue Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library (4330 Edmondson Avenue, 21229). The Black Writers Guild of Maryland strives to provide opportunities for Maryland African-American writers to network, showcase their projects, be mentored and be educated.

Anthony Michael Hobbs, only 12 years-old, is also an award winning actor having appeared as a young Frederick Douglass in the Emmy nominated PBS Special “The American Experience: The Abolitionist” (https://video.pbs.org/video/2321796209) starring actor/director Richard Brooks (“Law & Order”). Hobbs represented the docu-series at the 2013 Emmy Awards, a feat not match by some major actors. His motto is “don’t dream it, do it” and he provides his own platform for those children filmmakers, like himself, who want to take a dream and make it real with his 3rd annual Imagination Lunchbox International Children’s Film Festival (ILICFF). The next ILICFF is slated for Thursday April 19, 2018 – Monday April 23rd starting at the Maryland Film Festival’s Parkway Theatre with a children style red carpeted screening of short films make by kids or for kids.

His first short film One Nation was made because of former President Obama’s call for short films by children. It did not make it but it inspired him to make more films. The One Nation film is about a group of kids doing something special for returning soldiers from the Iraq war. It was screened in 10 international film festivals and he won four awards. His second film Naga Pixie is about a group of friends being chased by a magical “Pixie” who is scolding them about how they treat animals and the earth. It has been screened at six film festivals and has won at two. His third short Agent Hollywood recently premiered at his own international film festival when he was 11 years old. Agent Hollywood is about a young celebrity actor who is really an undercover agent with a mission to save the world.

As an actor Hobbs has garnered six awards from Global Stars Network for his acting skills. His credits include another notable role starring in the DreamWorks documentary “How to Train Your Dragon: Dragons and Dinosaurs” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bekKOmfsWfc); a United Way’s PSA (https://vimeo.com/54017197); a Norwegian Cruise-Line commercial; several PBS Sprout Network mini-segments; a national classroom program called KinderRhyme – which appears in over 2600 school programs, and in a Comcast’s Xfinity segment. Also as a voice-over actor Anthony Michael’s voice can be heard in an instructional video for advertising firm TBWA World Wide – the largest advertising holding company in the world

His theater credits include Nolan Williams, Jr.’s holiday musical presentation “Christmas Gift!” and a New York stage play titled “In a Roundabout Way.” Anthony Michael is also a model who has appeared in national marketing campaigns that include the Finish Line athletic chain’s print and in-store campaign, Villa retail chain’s website and in-store campaign, Toys-R-Us’ print campaign and the USDA Healthy Kids’ print campaign.
