*A judge has sided with Jill Scott in shutting down an attempt by her soon-to-be ex husband to have the singer pay his legal fees in their messy divorce.

According to Bossip, a Tennessee judge on Monday denied Mike Dobson’s request for Scott to pay him roughly $6,500 for legal fees from the divorce. The judge also ruled that the prenup agreement he signed, which bars him from seeking support from Scott, remains in effect. Scott paying Dobson’s legal fees would fall under “spousal support,” a right that he signed away under the prenup, the judge said.

Scott’s 2017 divorce filing cited irreconcilable differences after just 15 months of marriage, and that living together any longer would be improper and potentially unsafe.

Dobson countersued Scott, claiming she coerced him into signing a bad prenup and bullied and intimidated him throughout the relationship. He has asked the judge to award him half of the assets the couple acquired during their short union.

Scott’s lawyer also revealed that Scott paid Dobson $20,000 about a week before she filed for divorce, according to court papers obtained by BOSSIP.

“She did not throw him out with nothing,” Rose Palermo, a lawyer for Scott, said at a hearing last month, according to a transcript obtained by BOSSIP. “She gave him $20,000 when he left. And during the – during the course of the marriage, she deposited funds into an account for his – for his benefit.”

Dobson later admitted that Scott gave him the $20,000, but said it was to pay for immediate “family expenses” and he never got a penny of it, court papers state.

At last month’s hearing, Dobson’s lawyer James Cobb said despite his client’s $58,000 a year salary and income from rentals, he has various bills, like debts, rent and child support and only had about $100 in leftover spending money at the end of the month.

But the judge Monday sided with Scott and denied Dobson’s argument that the mom of one acted in bad faith under their prenup by kicking him out of the house, changing the locks and putting his stuff in storage.

However, the judge did say that he still may find a reason to throw out the prenup, and reserved the right to do so if circumstances arose that challenged agreement’s validity, according to court papers obtained by BOSSIP.
