Karen Horne Tells How NBC TIPS Programs Keep the Net Ahead of the Curve

*EURweb had the privilege of sitting with Karen Horne for a roundtable discussion about NBC TIPS program that has been nurturing on screen and behind the camera talent since 2000.

There are a number of programs that are not only diverse and inclusive of all participants but diverse in the areas of expertise. NBC TIPS has opportunities for actors, writers, directors, comedians, and even casting.

So if writing is your passion and your talent is yet to be discovered, NBC has the opportunities for you in almost every craft in show business.

The best part about these programs is that they really work and get you work. There are so many success stories from Deon Cole who wrote for the “Conan” show to Natasha Rothwell who wrote for SNL and now HBO’s “Insecure.”

Karen Horne, who is the Vice President of Programming Talent Development & Inclusion, speaks on why it is so important for NBC to have Diversity Programs. She says “Our programs have been in existence for 18 years here so again I think we are setting the trends and not following them… We have to reflect the society that we broadcast to and I say that most sincerely. We are only as good as the stories we tell. If we don’t tell the stories of the people we broadcast to we become antiquated.” She went on to say, “More importantly diversity is good business. I’ve been saying that since the day I stepped on this lot.”

These ideologies fuel the tips program which includes: Female Forward, Writers on the Verge, Emerging Directors Program, Stand Up NBC, Late Night Writers Workshop, and more! Talent knows no boundaries and if you think you have what it takes visit www.nbcunitips.com for more information on the various programs NBC offers and how to apply.
