*Oprah Winfrey has sold 25% of her stake in Weight Watchers. She invested $43 million back in 2015 at a price of about $6.75/share. She will make a $65 million profit on this 25% sale alone — a sale she said was intended to balance her investment portfolio.

“I am deeply committed to Weight Watchers and continue to see a bright future for the company,” Winfrey said in a statement.

Winfrey reportedly made $110 million this month by selling 2 million shares of the company, according to a regulatory filing. She also donated a small share to her charitable foundation.

As reported by USA Today: “Winfrey’s investment in 2015 came after she experienced personal success on the company’s weight-loss program. Since then, the company’s fortunes have soared as membership increased and the stock price ballooned.”

According to WSJ, last year, “Weight Watchers reported $1.31 billion in revenue and 3.2 million subscribers, a 12% revenue increase and roughly 600,000 subscriber gain from the year earlier.”

“I believe in Weight Watchers and I’m inspired every day by the millions of people around the world who are leading healthier and more fulfilling lives,” Winfrey said.

The media mogul donated 361,000 shares to the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation, which sold them for $22.6 million. She retains over 75% of her holdings in Weight Watchers and will not sell additional shares this year.
