*As the investigation into the death of Prince continues on in Minnesota, a prosecutor says he’s reviewing law enforcement reports and will make a decision on possible charges “in the near future.”
Carver County Attorney Mark Metz says in a statement that investigative data in the case remains active and isn’t public information until a charging decision is made, reports Page Six.
Meanwhile, prosecutors did agree to share documents linked to the criminal investigation with his siblings, including autopsy data, so they can consider taking civil action.
Authorities initially fought the motion, insisting all law enforcement information is confidential while an investigation is ongoing, but as part of their eventual agreement filed Wednesday (March 21), Prince’s family members and their legal reps must keep all findings confidential – or face contempt of court charges.
They now face a race to examine the paperwork as the statute of limitations in some of these kinds of civil cases is only two years.
“That’s why we need the records,” explained the siblings’ attorney John Goetz. “They should give us some guidance on who might be culpable in his death.”
Metz says he plans to address the release of other investigative data the family wants at a hearing next week.
Prince was 57 when he died at his Paisley Park estate on April 21, 2016, of an accidental fentanyl overdose.
