*Before we clue you in on the network’s new Christmas offering for 2018, TV One‘s got good news to share about what some entertainment watchers consider their flagship programs: “Unsung” and “Unsensored.”
On Sunday, February 25, the premiere of Uncensored: Tamar Braxton, was the #1 telecast on Ad-supported Cable at 10 p.m. ET among African- Americans P25-54, experiencing growth over last week’s debut among Total P25-54 (+12%) and W25-54 (+5%). TV One’s back-to-back premieres of the autobiographical series Uncensored: Tamar Braxton and Unsung: The Boys also ranked among the Top 5 telecasts on Ad-supported Cable among African-Americans P25-54 for the second week in a row from 9-11 p.m. ET, ranking #3 and #5, respectively (L+3).
Premieres of Uncensored and Unsung both saw audience growth among P25-54 over the prior week’s strong premieres on Sunday, February 18, with Unsung: The Boys earning a .47 P25-54 (+3%), and .65 Household rating from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET (L+3). The premiere of Uncensored: Tamar Braxton delivered a .54 P25-54 and .72 Household rating, from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET (L+3). And, both shows delivered a combined reach of 1.4 Million Total Unique Viewers 2+ for the night, driving TV One to once again rank among the Top 5 Cable networks in primetime on Sunday night among African-Americans P25-54 (#5).
According to Rollingout.com, Uncensored “provides a platform for subjects to speak directly and candidly about their personal triumphs and successes, the obstacles and challenges they have faced, and the pivotal moments that have shaped their lives and careers.”
Premieres continue this week on Sunday, March 11 starting at 9/8C with Unsung: Blue Magic and Uncensored: Nia Long. R&B quintet Blue Magic stands as the last of the great vocal groups from the 1970s, and all five original members reunited for the first time since 1982 to tell their incredible story on Unsung. A stunning pop culture darling, Hollywood leading lady and three-time NAACP award winner Nia Long‘s run of success spans three decades. The journey to get there, however, was a turbulent one, and she’s telling her story on Uncensored this Sunday at 10/9C.
In its first season, Uncensored dives deep into the lives of your favorite personalities as they reveal secrets to their success, obstacles they’ve faced, and how they manage this new world of social media that has helped but sometimes haunted their careers. The 10-episode autobiographical series gives unprecedented access to stars of film, television, music, and pop culture, including La La Anthony, Snoop Dogg, NeNe Leakes, Charlamagne Tha God, Le’Andria Johnson, and more as they personally reveal their own stories, in their own words, in the places their stories unfolded.

In other TV one news, the network has announced that production is underway in Atlanta for the new original holiday movie, MERRY WISH-MAS. Starring Tamela Mann (The Manns) as Keneisha ‘Kenni’ Wright, a single and successful Atlanta businesswoman who hasn’t returned home for the holidays in years, she plays opposite her creative and life partner, husband David Mann (The Manns) as Jessie Jenkins, an old high school friend. The two reunite at Jessie’s fledgling wellness facility, the Beverly Living Center, where Kenni is reminded of the transformational power of love, hope and faith, amplified by the spirit of the holidays. The Manns also serve as executive producers on the project, which will premiere this winter on TV One.
Directed by award-winning actress, director and producer Terri J. Vaughn, this feel-good romantic comedy revolves around Kenni, who has avoided the annual holiday trip to her hometown of Columbia, South Carolina for years. While she is hoping for the best, as with any family, there are unresolved issues lingering that could make the holiday not so bright. The movie also stars veteran actress Kim Fields (Living Single) as Celine, a regular at the center who loves seeing the new smile Kenni puts on Jessie’s face, but is protective about his feelings. Towanda Braxton (Braxton Family Values) plays the role of Natalie, the persistent local woman who has a crush on Jessie. Elizabeth Omilami (Madea’s Family Reunion) appears as Kenni’s matchmaker mom Regina, while Chrystale Wilson (The Player’s Club) steps into the role of Kenni’s sister and food truck entrepreneur Dionne, adding a high dose of sibling rivalry. Rap artist Yung Joc, best known for popular singles “It’s Goin’ Down” and “I Know You See It,” makes a cameo appearance.
