Elan Trotman’s 5th Barbados Jazz Weekends Returns

*Renowned contemporary jazz saxophonist, Elan Trotman, returns to Barbados to host the 5th rendition of his namesake festival – Elan Trotman’s Barbados Jazz Excursion & Golf Weekend. Taking place Columbus Day Weekend, October 4-8, 2018, the event will pay homage to the island’s musical history and diverse culture.

Headliners include platinum-selling and Grammy award winning saxophonist Najee and the Grammy-nominated singer Maysa, formerly of the group Incognito. There will also be performances by Brian Bromberg, Nestor Torres, Karen Briggs, Alex Bugnon and Jeff Bradshaw.

“Now in our fifth year, the festival has truly become a must-attend event for jazz enthusiasts all around the world,” said Trotman. “Barbados has continued to be the perfect backdrop with its natural beauty, bounty of attractions and enticing culture and history.”

Every year the festival has continued to grow. Last year the festival brought in just shy of 400 visitors, with 350 the year before. This year’s number is expected to grow given the strength of the headlining acts and expected celebrity guests.

“The Elan Trotman Jazz Excursion is not to be missed. This incredible talent brings together some of the best in the jazz world to create an amazing weekend. It’s no surprise that Jazz Fest guests come back year after year,” said Petra Roach, USA Director of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. “Jazz has enchanted music enthusiasts all over the world for decades and we’re thrilled to see this genre blossom in Barbados.”

This year the Hilton Barbados Resort – which features multiple bars and dining choices, along with a variety of accommodation classes – will serve as the host hotel. A meal plan is included for guests. Add-on excursions include underwater adventures from Atlantis Submarine, a Made In Barbados Island Tour, an Island Safari and a night out in the famed St. Lawrence Gap neighborhood.

Golf enthusiasts are invited to rounds at some of Barbados’ finest golf courses, including Sandy Lane Country Club, Barbados Golf Club and Royal Westmoreland Golf Club. Golf outings will commence on October 5, where there will be a practice round at the par 72, 7,045-yard Royal Westmoreland Golf Club. The next practice round will on October 6 at the 18-hole Barbados Golf Club.

The finale annual Charity Golf Tournament will take place at the breathtaking Sandy Lane Country Club on Sunday, October 7. Hosted by Elan Trotman, and his celebrity friends, all proceeds from the tournament will benefit Elan’s Never Lose Your Drive Foundation, which funds Headstart Music Barbados. A special golf package is available for those who want to participate.

Confirmed celebrity attendees include John Starks (NBA NY Knicks), Maurice Allen (Former world #1 ranked long driver) and Bronson Arroyo (Cincinnati Reds). Other invited celebrity guests include AJ Calloway (Extra TV), and famed international cricketers Desmond Haynes and Brian Lara.

Concert wristbands are required for admittance to all performances. VIP concert seating and pre-show meet & greets with attending artists will also be available.
