Jesus Was Not White. Here Is Why That Matters

*Today, on Easter Sunday, Christians around the world are attending churches to worship Jesus Christ and, in particular, remember his death on a cross and of course his resurrection. In most of these churches, Jesus will be depicted as a white man, a guy that looks Anglo, a guy who will be real easy for white folks to identify with.

However, writer Robyn J. Whitaker argues in this Newsweek story that that’s not reality.

Uh oh, it’s about to get interesting to say the least.

This originally appeared on The Conversation. I grew up in a Christian home, where a photo of Jesus hung on my bedroom wall. I still have it. It is schmaltzy and rather tacky in that 1970s kind of way, but as a little girl I loved it.
