Tyler Perry Says Son Aman ‘Really Has Changed My Life’

*In 2014, Tyler Perry welcomed a son, Aman, with his girlfriend Gelila Bekele, and now the writer/director is opening up about being a first time father with the ladies of “The Real,” saying that “All the clichés are real. He really has changed my life.”

“He’s so beautiful and strong and amazing. And he’s a healer for me ’cause I look at him and see myself as a little boy. And I’m able to give him all the love and all the things that I never had,” Perry said.

Perry – born Emmitt Perry Jr. – wrote and produced many stage plays during the 1990s and early 2000s, with many of them adapted for the big screen. His first animated movie “Madea’s Tough Love” was released on DVD last January. His movies have seen very limited release outside North America, but in 2010, Lionsgate announced plans to begin releasing Tyler’s films in the United Kingdom.

In 2011, Forbes named him the highest paid man in entertainment; earning $130 million between May 2010 and 2011.  In 2012, Perry struck an exclusive multi-year partnership with Oprah Winfrey and her Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) to bring scripted television to the network. That deal is now over and he’s since taken his talents to BET.

Perry has been relatively mum on details about his son and baby momma, but he told “The Real” that he named Oprah and Cicely Tyson as godmothers of his one-year-old.

“I think the best advice she’s given me is about just living in the moment. Just be present in what is going on in your life,” Perry said of Oprah, when asked what has been the best advice the media mogul has given him since the birth of his son.

“You spend your time wondering and complaining about this and why this isn’t right and that isn’t right, you’re just wasting your time. Just celebrate where you are,” he said.
