Cast of Netflix’s ‘Dear White People’ Talk Season 2, Clapbacks and Social Awareness At Premiere (WATCH)

*In season 1 of the Netflix series “Dear White People” we learned about the racial issues at the fictional predominantly white institution of Winchester University.

The finale ended with chaos breaking out during a campus protest where the school’s black student body president was arrested in front of everyone. In Vol. 2, expect to see more situations that involve identity politics, internet trolls and social awareness.

EURweb was on the red carpet to and spoke with Logan Browning (Samantha White,) Brandon P. Bell (Troy Fairbanks,)  Antoinette Robertson (Coco Conners,) Marque Richardson (Reggie Green) and more of the cast about what to expect in this season, clapbacks and Kanye West.

Browning’s character “Sam” was on the receiving end of online trolling and internet harassment. That will be one of the themes continuing into season 2. Mirroring some of the experiences series and the film’s creator Justin Simien experienced following it’s release. But the actress says she doesn’t believe in the clapback,

“I like to live a positive life and I believe that you attract what you put out and if you put out positive vibes then that’s what you’ll get back.”

Bell discussed the importance of being involved with a project that is culturally relevant. He said that “because you allow people to have conversation and see themselves in the characters or relate it to their own lives, is something he’s always been a fan of” when selecting projects to work on.

Antoinette Robertson shared that there will be growth in “Coco” for the new season. That “she is no longer looking for a man to define her.”

Marque Richardson said “Reggie” will be dealing with the aftermath of having a gun pulled on him. Plus we got the scoop on Lionel’s new love interest.

Emmy Award winning screenwriter Lena Waithe makes a guest appearance this season. Other attendees at the premiere included cast members DeRon HortonJohn Patrick Amedori,
