Childish Gambino’s Biggest Hit Ever! ‘This is America’ is #1 in First Week

*As an entertainment entity, Donald Glover has been glowing, shall we say, for quite some time. But lately, he and his career are glowing red hot.

One reason is “This Is America,” the new song he released under his Childish Gambino moniker. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard magazine’s Hot 100 chart, making it the most-streamed and top-selling song of the week.

The multitalented star sneak-released the song and video on May 6. It immediately struck a chord with music fans, thanks to the video’s haunting images of black oppression and gun violence.

“This Is America” is already the biggest hit of Glover’s music career, beating out his 2017 hit “Redbone,” which peaked at No. 12.

But “This Is America” is not the only reason glover is glowing. His “Atlanta” TV show continues to slay ratings wise and of course there’s that hot little Star Wars film, “Solo” that he’s starring in as Lando Calrissian. It opens in theaters May 25 and is expected to be the No. 1 film that week.

*Meanwhile, after news broke that Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover left their roles on FX’s animated “Deadpool” TV series over creative differences, Stephen has now revealed that the “last straw” was their planned episode about Taylor Swift.

The Wrap reported Sunday that the episode was not well received, and the entire project was then taken out of the brothers’ hands.

“There really was a Taylor Swift episode. It was HILARIOUS. And it definitely was the last straw lol,” Stephen wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted. “Our show wasn’t too black. It wasn’t really that black at all. But we definitely wanted to give ‘Rick and Morty’ a run for their money and I think we would have. Proud of the gang.”

Stephen’s tweet follows a series of since-deleted tweets from Donald revealing that he wasn’t “too busy to work on Deadpool,” as some had suggested. He then proceeded to tweet out page after page of the show’s script, which finds the Deadpool character wondering aloud why his animated series got scrapped.
