Teen Who Took Bus to Graduation Ceremony Gifted Car from Rickey Smiley! (WATCH)

*If you somehow missed the news about a young man named Corey Patrick, here’s a quickie backgrounder. The Birmingham, Alabama graduating senior basically went from unknown teen to viral sensation after a MAX bus driver posted photos of the Tarrant High School student on his way to the bus stop in his graduation gown.

His family relocated just before his senior year to the West End neighborhood, which is about 10 miles from his school but takes roughly 90 minutes to reach on public transport.

Corey wanted to finish his senior year with his friends so he committed to waking up early.

‘I had to do what was necessary for me to walk this year,’ he told WBRC.

His mother Felicia White said the rest of his family eventually managed to find a way to get to the school in time for his graduation.

Now, thanks to comedian and radio personality, Rickey Smiley, Corey is looking at life with a whole new perspective.

Smiley, like a lot of folks, became inspired by young Corey Patrick’s story. In order to attend school, Corey had to wake up every day at 4 am to take the long bus ride, and Rickey accurately described this awesome young man as the “definition of determination.”

After Corey’s story went viral, Smiley announced on his radio show that he and other celebrities (Tyrese, Mike Epps and Da Brat) would pitch in to surprise the teen with a brand new SUV.

On Friday morning (05-25-18), Smiley made good on his promise and presented Corey with a new Jeep at the 95.7 Jamz studio.

In addition to receiving the new car, Corey has also received a full scholarship to Jacksonville University, reported WIAT.

Smiley took to IG to share that Corey Patrick is TRULY an inspiration & we couldn’t agree more!!!!

We should also add that the recent grad has reportedly been offered a full scholarship to Jacksonville University, and told Smiley he wants to major in computer science.

Patrick has also received more than $11,000 in donations thanks to a GoFundMe launched Wednesday.

Congrats Corey & best of luck in everything!
