*OWN’s new show, “Love Is_,” premieres Tuesday, June 19 at 10/9c. Ahead of the premiere, the creators, cast and crew celebrated with a very special screening of “Love Is_” with Episode 101: “Nuri and Yasir.” And then they danced the night away at an after party at NeueHouse Hollywood.
“Love Is_” is the new original one hour romantic drama series created and produced by award winning producers, Mara Brock Akil (“Girlfriends,” “Being Mary Jane,” “The Game”) and Salim Akil (“Black Lightning”). The series was inspired and based on the Akil’s real-life relationship, from the moment they met, to the trials and tribulations of becoming a couple, to assumingly, the happy ending, of being a real-life power couple in Hollywood!
The series is moderated by a fictional modern-day power couple in Black Hollywood, (Present Day) Wiser Nuri, played by Wendy Davis and (Present Day) Wiser Yasir, played by Clark Peter, as they rise to the top of their respective fields in the creative, dream chasing 1990’s jungle of Hollywood, played by Michele Weaver, as 1997 Nuri and Will Catlett as 1997 Yasir. The series follows Nuri and Yasir’s journey in pursuing their dreams and following their hearts to find love, happiness and ultimately, the inner joy of sharing your life with someone that is truly your soulmate.

The back drop of the 1990s gives this love story an interesting perspective, as it was the rise of Grunge music; the Rave scene was making a splash in the party circuit; Hip Hop was dominating every music space; cable television was becoming a household thing and the internet, then called the World Wide Web was connecting people from all over the world! So, watching to see how this now, “power couple” aligns their present-day selves, with the social and political times they grew up in, to find true happiness … will be a pleasure to watch from a unique and changing time!
Not only will this series be inspirational for black couples, but all couples on their own personal journeys to success in life and love, will be encouraged; will laugh; will relate and will we hooked to watching this new series!
