*The life of Michael Jackson will be made into a musical set to bow on Broadway in 2020.
Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Sweat, Ruined) will pen the book for the musical, which will incorporate Jackson’s myriad hits to tell the King of Pop’s life story.
An American in Paris Tony winner Christopher Wheeldon has been tapped to direct and choreograph.
No word yet on casting or any pre-Broadway engagements of the musical, which hails from the Michael Jackson Estate and Columbia Live Stage.
Jackson has been the subject of many numerous entertainment ventures, including a staged concert, “Thriller Live” that has been running for nearly a decade in London. The estate’s executors have collaborated with several projects, including “Michael Jackson ONE,” a Cirque du Soleil show running for the last five years in Las Vegas; a documentary, “Michael Jackson’s This Is It,” released a few months after his death in 2009; and “Michael Jackson’s Journey From Motown to Off the Wall,” a Spike Lee documentary from 2016.
