*If you haven’t already experienced it, you are about to get a super delicious musical treat for yo’ ears and yo’ feet. It’s courtesy of famed Bay Area percussionist Pete Escovedo, the father of another famed percussionist/vocalist, Sheila E.
Via Soul Tracks, here’s what “Pops” Escovedo has to say about his newest creation, Back to the Bay:
“With this new project, I wanted to reach back and taste all those wonderful flavors of music that sadly aren’t as common as they used to be.”
And he brings together an incredible amount of talent along, including Bobby Caldwell, Howard Hewett, and many more.
OK, as our headline says, the cut we wanna talk about and feature is the Al Green/Willie Mitchell classic “Let’s Stay Together” re-do with veteran songstress Sy Smith on lead. It’s got a true Latin-meets-Soul sound that we absolutely LOVE and can’t stop watching/listening/grooving/dancing to!

“I’ve long been a fan of Sy’s. She’s a huge talent and is typically found pushing the envelope with more unconventional projects, but her handling of this classic is subtly sublime. Since she’s worked with Al before (Soul Food theme) she was probably even more incentivized to give it “the treatment.” It’s a fun and endearing rendition.”
