Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law Protects White Racist Who Shot/Killed Black Man [VIDEO]

*Florida’s Stand Your Ground” law prevents the arrest of a racist white male who fatally shot a black man last week during an argument over a handicapped parking spot.

When Markeis McGlockton, 28, shoved Michael Drejka, 47, to the ground during the argument at a Clearwater convenience store, Drejka shot and killed Markeis with a gun he legally owned.

The fatal moment was triggered when Markesis’ girlfriend, Britany Jacobs, 25, was sitting in a car parked in a handicapped space outside the convenience store on Thursday afternoon. Drejka reportedly approached her vehicle and started looking for a handicap permit. When he didn’t see one, they began to argue about it.

Meanwhile, McGlockton and their 5-year-old son were in the store but he ran outside when he saw the two yelling at each other.

In a video recorded on a surveillance camera, McGlockton exits the Circle A Food Store, approaches Drejka and shoves him to the ground. Mr. McGlockton takes a few steps back and Drejka pulls out a gun and shoots him once in the chest. Markesis then retreats back into the store, clutching his chest. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Gualtieri his office did not arrest or charge Drejka, who had a concealed carry permit, because of Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, which removes the obligation to retreat if a person feels threatened and frees the person to use deadly force “if he or she reasonably believes” it is necessary “to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm,” per NY Times.

The law was the reason George Zimmerman was acquitted in the 2012 fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager.

Florida’s “If you’re white/non-black and shoot a black guy we won’t arrest you” law (Stand Your Ground), which was adopted in 2005, received support from the National Rifle Association but was vigorously opposed by law enforcement officers.

“I don’t make the law — we enforce the law,” Gualtieri said. “And I’m going to enforce it the way it’s written, the way the Legislature’s intended for it to be applied. And others can have the debate about whether they like it or not.”

In other words, this white cop wants you to know that Markeis McGlockton wouldn’t be dead if he hadn’t laid hands on the white dude. The reality is, Florida adopted the Stand Your Ground law as a way to entrap black folks. The law works for non-blacks, but overall, it’s a modern day racist, lynch law.

According to the report, more than most other states, Florida has made it particularly difficult to prosecute when a defendant has a reasonable claim to self-defense, said Caroline Light, a Harvard professor and the author of a book on the history of Stand Your Ground-type self-defense laws. Professor Light said that, in the video, Mr. McGlockton appeared to be defending his family through nonlethal means.

“He shoves him, seemingly in an effort to get him away from his girlfriend, and then walks away,” she said. “The video would suggest it’s actually not reasonable for him to fear for his life.”
