*The first official trailer has been released for “Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story,” a six-part series slated to premiere July 30 at 10 p.m. on the Paramount Network. The first extended look at the docuseries, executive produced by JAY-Z, begins with the 911 calls reporting the shooting of the 17 year-old by George Zimmerman.

With moving images of Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, the 60-second preview traces the rise of the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement that gained momentum with the unarmed teen’s Feb. 26, 2012 shooting.

Zimmerman, who used Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law as justification for his self-defense claim, was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in July 2013. The trailer shows some of the widespread protests ignited by Zimmerman’s acquittal.

The film also features interviews with the family’s lawyer, Benjamin Crump, the Rev. Al Sharpton, Carmelo Anthony, Angela Davis and many others.

“Rest In Power” follows JAY-Z’s 2017’s Peabody Award-winning Spike TV docuseries “TIME: The Kalief Browder Story,” which chronicled the young black man’s heartbreaking story of spending three years at Rikers Island Prison for allegedly stealing a backpack before his death by suicide at age 22.
