*It looks like black is back … in favor with the folks at Disney, too. Actually betting on black is not that difficult a call in light of the extreme success of “Black Panther.”

OK, here’s the deal. According to The Blast, the Mouse House is getting set to show off the latest addition to their roster of royalty and are they’re making sure to handle the most important part — merchandising!

The article says that earlier this year Disney bet on black and picked up a pitch for a live-action project called, “Sadé,” about an African girl receiving magical powers and using it to save her kingdom.

According to documents, obtained by The Blast, Disney recently filed to lock up 13 trademarks for “PRINCESS SADE.” The products the House of Mouse is looking to push includes everything from clothes and toys, to bed linens and cosmetics. They also cover tons of snack foods for kids, like pizza, cereal, candy, waffles and banana chips.

Luckily Disney isn’t just focusing on junk food and toys, because they also list that they want to use Princess Sadé to promote education.

Wow! This sounds like a big deal for the company as Princess Sadé will be the first African female led feature for Disney. If you recall, back in 2009, “The Princess and the Frog” introduced the world to Tiana, who was the first African-American Disney Princess.

Sade - Disney African Princess

Disney/Princess Sadé background ...

Disney got the idea of an African princess which was originally the idea of Lindsey Reed Palmer and Ola Shukunbi. This idea was like music to the ears for the folks at Disney, as they had missed out on a Princess Fairytale from an entire continent.

This new attraction has been assigned a legendary producer – Rick Famuyiwa but still has to find a director. This story will see Sadé use her magic to create strong warrior skills in order to protect her kingdom. The villain is yet to be revealed but is being rumored as a mysterious evil force which threatens to undo everything that she loves.

Speaking of which, Sadé will also be joined by her prince in this badass adventure!

This news was revealed alongside the upcoming remake of Mulan and The Lion King and an adaptation of Beauty and The Beast. This project won’t be the first time the story writer and the producer are collaborating, as they have worked together on a short film called ‘Break’ in 2017.
