Nicki Minaj Donates $25K to Geoffrey Owens, He Gives It to Charity

*Earlier this month,‘Cosby Show’ actor Geoffrey Owens went viral when a photo of him working at Trader Joe’s surfaced. Amid the backlash and job-shaming, there was some good that came out of it — Owens was offered scripts from Tyler Perry and “NCIS: New Orleans,” and the 57-year-old received a donation from Nicki Minaj.

The “Chun Li” rapper gave him $25,000 to show her support, adding, “Some people are on the Internet and seeking attention, and he’s just the antithesis of that.

Owens decided to give the money to charity, TMZ reports.

Geoffrey tells the outlet, “I would like to give this donation of 25k to the Actor’s Fund in memory of the late, great Earle Hyman — who played Cosby’s father, ‘Russell’, on “The Cosby Show” — who lived his last many years and died at the Actors’ Home, (funded and run by the Actor’s Fund). I am extremely grateful to Nicki Minaj for enabling struggling actors to continue pursuing their dreams.”

Nicki seems to share his appreciation, saying, “I’m happy to be a part of a great cause. I wish Geoffrey much success and want him to know how loved he is. Rest in Peace to Earle Hyman.”

In related news, Deadline reports that Owens is on a roll after Hollywood came to his defense when media outlets attempted to shame the actor for his job as a Trader Joe’s cashier. He has landed yet another role, this time opposite Hilary Swank, Michael Ealy, and Mike Colter in the noir thriller “Fatale,” which is being directed by Deon Taylor.
