ESPN’s Max Kellerman Believes Giants Need Colin Kaepernick ‘In Their System Right Now’ [WATCH]

*ESPN’s Max Kellerman has sparked debate online among football fans after stating that the New York Giants would be a better team with Colin Kaepernick as their quarterback.

“They’re 1-4 now and let me tell you what they need to do right now,” Kellerman said on ‘First Take’ Monday morning. “The New York football Giants need to sign Colin Kaepernick right now. They need a dynamic quarterback, a starting-caliber NFL quarterback which Kaepernick is to pair with the most talented wide out I have ever seen — and yes that includes Randy Moss — in Odell Beckham and the most talented running back prospect I’ve ever seen in Saquon Barkley. Not to mention Evan Engram when he comes back. I like the defense on this team when Olivier Vernon comes back with Bettcher’s defense — I think they’ll be getting more sacks and all that.”

As noted by 247sports.com, Kellerman believes that signing Kaepernick now will help the Giants in the short and long-term future.

“Kaepernick might be ready to play if he gets involved in a system right now, by the middle or late of this year,” Kellerman said. “If they do start to make a run, but Eli’s play starts to falter, you have an option there. You can’t run RPOs with Eli Manning. Can you imagine running them with Saquon Barkley?! When you have Odell Beckham and Evan Engram with a guy as dynamic as Colin Kaepernick. And think about this, when you sign him, you know what the No. 1 jersey on the market will be? No. 7 for New York Giants.

“They need him right now and they need to start developing him in their system right now. He’s the best available answer at quarterback and the Giants need an answer at quarterback.”

Co-host Steven A. Smith quickly slammed Kellerman’s argument as “ignorant” before explaining: “The last time we saw this guy (Kaepernick) he was 1-10 as a starter and 3-16 as a starter in his last 19 starts,” Smith said to Kellerman. “He has completed less than 60 percent of his passes.”

Many Giants fans agree that the team almost certainly is not going to sign Kaepernick.
