Start the Clock! Insiders Say Megyn Kelly Could Be Out at NBC by December

*Megyn Kelly’s days on “Today” could be coming to an end by December, TV insiders tell Page Six — and the chatter comes on the heels of her current controversy, in which she defended white people wearing blackface on Halloween.

But according to folks in the know, Kelly’s fate was sealed long before she put her ignorance on full display.

She’s halfway through a three-year contract, at $20 million a year. A source said that with this gaffe, NBC could just “let Kelly hang out to dry.”

Another source wondered, “Is NBC enjoying Megyn’s latest self-inflicted wounds?”

The network covered her offensive comments on both “NBC Nightly News” and “Today,” and the issue was included in a “Late Night With Seth Meyers” monologue.

We hear that Kelly met with her staff on Wednesday after apologizing on-air.

NBC News boss Andy Lack reportedly addressed the issue at a previously scheduled town hall meeting.

“There is no other way to put this, but I condemn those remarks,” he reportedly told staffers. “There is no place on our air or in this workplace for them. Very unfortunate.”

He added, “I think that ‘Nightly’ covered the story well … appropriately so,” and that the “Today” “team did an excellent job covering it properly … That is the ‘Today’ show and ‘Nightly’ at their very best.”

As we previously reported, while debating on “what is racist,” Kelly, who was born in 1970, reflected on her own childhood — back to a time when it was appropriate for white folks to put on “blackface on Halloween, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character,” she argued during her Tuesday show.

“You do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person that puts on whiteface for Halloween. Back when I was a kid, that was OK.”

As expected, her comment sparked outrage, particularly from folks who recalled her previous claim that Santa Claus could only be a white man.

Comedian Patrick Monahan suggested the only time Kelly would be offended by blackface is “if the person is also dressed as Santa Claus.”
