Tisha Campbell-Martin Recalls Her 'School Daze' Dance Audition During 30th Anniversary Q&A [WATCH]

*Spike Lee’s comedy/music “School Daze” celebrates its 30th Anniversary by debuting on Blu-ray™ November 13 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Based on Lee’s experiences while a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, “School Daze” follows a group of fraternity and sorority members clashing with other students at a historically black college during homecoming weekend.

The all-star cast includes Academy Award nominee Laurence Fishburne, Emmy Award nominee Giancarlo Esposito, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy and two-time Academy Award nominee and Honorary Oscar winner Spike Lee.

The Blu-ray release includes an all-new special feature: a 2018 Q&A with Spike Lee and select cast and crew, along with some special guests. Legacy special features include a director’s commentary, a cast commentary with Tisha Campbell-Martin, Rusty Cundieff, Bill Nunn, Darryl Bell and Kadeem Hardison, three featurettes and music videos, including “Be Alone Tonight” from the Rays, “Be One” from Phyllis Hyman, and “Da Butt” by EU.

Meanwhile, and in case you didn’t know, the president of Morehouse at the time “School Daze” was filmed was Hugh Morris Gloster, and iloveoldschoolmusic.com reported that Gloster kicked Lee, along with the entire cast and crew, off the campus for the very reason that was being covered in the film: Black on Black colorism.

Here’s what Spike revealed in a February 2018 interview with Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Lee recalled a “sad” meeting with Gloster (a light skinned brotha), after he was kicked off campus, to plead his case to stay. “He said to me, ‘I don’t like the guy you cast as the college president (the late, great Joe Seneca). He looks too much like a sambo,’” Lee said. “He said that to my face. When he said that, I said, I know what we were doing was right. Because I had the president of Morehouse telling me the man I cast as the president was too dark-skinned.”
