Aretha Franklin’s Money Wanted by the IRS: Nearly $8Million!!

*Uh oh! Bad news for the estate of Aretha Franklin. When the Queen of Soul left us, she not only left behind a legacy of incredible music, but a hefty debt to Uncle Sam, too.

According to legal docs obtained by TMZ … the IRS claims Franklin owes more than $6.3 MILLION in back taxes from 2012 to 2018, and an additional $1.5 mil in penalties.

This big ol’ tax situation is the result of several audits over the last 6 years, according to Aretha’s reps. Here’s something you might find interesting. Did you notice that one of the years in question is this year (what’s left of it), 2018.

TMZ also reports that Auntie Re’s lawyer also filed docs in October demanding the estate come up with nearly $54k to cover bills dating back 6 years.

Lastly, there’s also a new lien filed by a publishing company that wants $136,000 for royalties in connection with the 1973 song “Angel.”

Well, Aretha’s estate’s definitely got something to “Think” about.

In related news, Aretha Franklin’s long-awaited 1972 documentary concert film, “Amazing Grace,” made its worldwide debut at the DOC NYC Festival.

According to Page Six, Rev. Al Sharpton introduced the film and explained how he would always tell Franklin that 1972’s “Amazing Grace” was his favorite album of hers.

The doc had been shelved due to technical issues and then Franklin objected to its release, The Post reported.

In the movie, rock legend Mick Jagger is seen dancing and clapping in the crowd in a scene while Franklin sings “Climbing Higher Mountains.”

The movie will run Dec. 7 to 13 at Film Forum.
