Kevin Hart Finally Says ‘I Apologize for Remarks That Hurt the LGBTQ Community’

*Will he won’t host the Academy Awards next month remains a hot topic. In the meantime, Kevin Hart is forging ahead with his apology tour for the jokes that drew condemnation from the LGBTQ community and ultimately led to him stepping down as Oscars host.

On his SiriusXM radio show, “Straight to the Hart,” the funnyman said, “I will say this, and I want to make this very clear … Once again, Kevin Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community. I apologize,” reports The Blast.

He also noted how times have changed since he made the homophobic jokes, saying:

“We thought it was okay to talk like that, because that’s how we talked to one another … This is wrong now. Because now we’re in a space where I’m around people of the LGBTQ community, and I’m now aware of how these words make them feel, and why they say ‘That s–t hurt because of what I’ve been through.’”

Last week after Ellen DeGeneres had Hart as a guest on her daytime talk show she revealed she called The Academy to advocate for him getting the hosting gig back.

“I called [The Academy],” DeGeneres revealed. “I said, ‘Kevin’s on, I have no idea if he wants to come back and host, but what are your thoughts?’ And they were like, ‘Oh my God, we want him to host. We feel like that maybe he misunderstood or it was handled wrong or maybe we said the wrong thing but we want him to host. Whatever we can do we would be thrilled. And he should host the Oscars.”

The interview was heavily criticized, prompting Kevin to hit up Instagram to address it, writing …

“When did we get to the point where we forgot that we all learn, then we have the ability to grow and with that growth comes a wealth of knowledge.”

He added, “You can’t change without a understanding of what GROWTH means.”

Ellen defended the interview by explaining:

“I believe in forgiveness. I believe in second chances.”
