*Unfortunately Chaka Khan‘s less than steller performance at the start of the Rose Parade on New Years Day left a lot of her fans feeling a certain kind of way. Hint: It ain’t good.

If you missed it, Chaka, who pulled double duty as the parade’s Grand Marshall and a performer with a rendition of her mega hit “I Feel for You.” The performance didn’t leave a lot of folks with good feeling about her. We’re talking a lot of “ouches” coming at her. Like these comments on social media:

“Who got Chaka Khan drunk before this parade started?” someone wrote.

“Either Chaka Khan is drunk or her in ear monitor is off,” an observer noted.

“Chaka Khan needs to stick to lip synching,” suggested one critic of the performance.

In related news, the parade was briefly interrupted when a float celebrating U.S. railroad heritage broke down and erupted in smoke. Marching bands were able to move around the Chinese American Heritage Foundation’s “Harmony Through Union” entry, but other floats couldn’t, causing a brief backup.

“We’ve had a bit of a malfunction,” Leeza Gibbons told KTLA-TV viewers. “They’re scrambling right now.”

The disabled float was eventually towed from the route, and the parade resumed. The interruption caused long gaps, and some people began leaving until a monitor came along yelling, “The parade’s not over!”
