*Comedy Central airs its second stand up special from “Daily Show” correspondent Roy Wood Jr. on Friday, Jan. 25 at 11 p.m.
Titled “No One Loves You,” the 40-year-old Birmingham native covers the usual suspects of racism and sexism, giving the crowd at Chicago’s Vic Theatre his unique take on a number of hot topics, several of which fall under the issue of protests.
He has a lot to say about the paradoxical origins of the national anthem, and suggests some adjustments that would get black folks to stop kneeling. There’s also a funny bit about white people at marches who “over-protest.”

Other portions include black superheroes and their time constraints, a McDonald’s bit that goes on a little too long, a brilliant metaphor of the United States as a restaurant that doesn’t provide equal service, and how African Americans might avoid being the next “while black” victim of overreacting white bystanders.
While discussing the #MeToo movement, Wood makes a point about R. Kelly getting a pass, without ever mentioning the singer’s name. “If you do music the right way, it gives you a little longer time to be a bad person,” Wood says. “They’d rather step than take a stand.”
Is this worth an hour of your time? The man is consistently on point with his racial observations, and the material contains enough fresh, comical perspective to warrant at least some love, despite the title.
