Nick Cannon Talks About Teaching and Learning With Prison Inmates

Vivica A. Fox Is Looking For a Better Balance In 2019

Nick Cannon Talks About Teaching and Learning With Prison Inmates
Nick Cannon: I don’t like to like put it out there, like, “Oh, I’m a teacher, I’m a professor.” I’m actually currently in college at Howard University…

[The Real audience applauds]

Nick: I’m going for my masters and my doctorate and all of that…

Adrienne Houghton: That’s so great.

Nick: In the world of criminology…

Loni Love: Wow.

Nick: So I go into a lot of the prison systems – I “facilitate” – I don’t like to use the word “teach,” ‘cause I actually learn more from them, but it’s a serious situation where we know that – you know, mass incarceration and our criminal justice system together –

Jeannie Mai: So flawed.

Nick: It’s definitely flawed, and it’s something that we can dig into. So I didn’t want to just be another celebrity to come in and have an opinion. I actually wanted to go in and master and learn and that’s why I wanted to go into these facilities…

[The Real audience applauds]

Nick: And build with the brothers and sisters in there.

Adrienne: That is so great. Is there a name for this program?

Nick: It’s a bunch of different names… I was introduced to it by one of my professors, Dr. Muhammad, it’s called “The Dr. Muhammad Experience,” but it’s all up under the “Inside Out Program,” where college students go inside these facilities and we learn together and we co-facilitate these processes…

Adrienne: So great. I applaud you.

Loni: Look at you!
