*D.L. Hughley apparently doesn’t mind being the so-called bad guy sometimes when it comes to taking controversial stands … especially against pop culture heroes.
When asked his thoughts on the Michael Jackson (“Leaving Neverland“) documentary, his thoughts are that society needs to take a hard look what talented people are allowed to get away with.
TMZ caught up with the funnyman/TV/radio host outside of Guastavino’s in NYC Monday night, and instead of questioning how “Leaving Neverland” affects Jackson’s legacy — he had words for people who allowed Jackson to do what’s alleged in the doc.
D.L. says no matter what side you’re on, MJ’s behavior with young boys was disturbing and wouldn’t have been tolerated if he was Joe Schmoe … with no talent or wealth.
If this sounds familiar … it’s because D.L. hasn’t hesitated in the past to put MJ in the same box as R. Kelly.

Well, DL may not be down with Michael, but Fat Joe is. Monday night outside of Spago’s in Beverly Hills, he had no problem expressing his love for MJ, who he calls “the greatest ever.” On the other hand, he admitted he hadn’t seen the HBO documentary as of yet. However, he IS going to watch, and it’s obvious he’s going in with mixed emotions.
He also thinks there should probably be another documentary telling Jackson’s side of the story, but of course how would that be possible? So, will Jackson be seen in the same light as R. Kelly? When it’s all said and done, Fat Joe doesn’t think so.
TMZ also got Stevie Wonder at LAX, and he suggests it’s time to leave Michael alone. For now, he’s choosing to focus on MJ’s music and his “legacy of inspiration.”
Meanwhile, Oprah taking heat from Jackson’s fans for interviewing his accusers.  D.L. Hughley says her background more than qualifies her to do what she’s doing … and the haters need to take a collective seat.
